Can I vibecode Podia?
// buildable in a weekend, but real gaps stay open
Selling a few digital downloads or a course is buildable, but Podia bundles checkout, file delivery, courses, email, memberships, affiliates, and support.
confidence: high
what it is: Creator platform for courses, digital products, email, and memberships
Buildability index · an editorial game
- Price 49 $/month weight: plus 3
- Time multi-day weight: plus 1
- Category creator commerce no weight
- Moat compliance and regulation · infrastructure scale · execution quality weight: minus 5
- Confidence high weight: plus 1
- What you lose 7 items weight: minus 3
- Site podia.com (si apre in una nuova scheda) no weight
The moat outweighs the price: rebuilding this is a project, not an evening.
Gioco editoriale: il verdetto dice se un agente può, l’indice se conviene.
What you build
Build product pages, Stripe checkout, gated downloads/course lessons, customer accounts, and email receipts.
what you need
- Stripe
- file storage
- auth
- hosted site
- email service
- course/content database
Good creator monetization entry where 60% DIY value is realistic.
The prompt
A weekend with a coding agent. The gaps that stay are right below, under “what you lose”.
Build me a small digital-products store to replace Podia, for selling a few downloads,
not running a course business. Requirements:
- Node + Express + better-sqlite3, server-rendered pages with nunjucks, deployed on my
VPS behind my existing reverse proxy.
- Products live in products.json: slug, title, price, description, and the file to
deliver. Delivered files sit outside the web root.
- One page per product plus a /store index. The buy button goes straight to Stripe
Checkout (keys in .env); no cart, no coupons.
- Stripe webhook on payment: record the order in SQLite (email, product, amount,
timestamp) and email the buyer a download link via Resend or SMTP (creds in .env).
- Download links are signed tokens that expire after 7 days or 5 uses; an expired link
shows a resend-by-email form.
- An /admin page behind HTTP basic auth: order list and revenue per product.
- Out of scope: memberships, drip courses, email marketing, and affiliates. Do not build
customer accounts, the receipt email is the account.
- README: Stripe webhook setup with the CLI test command, and a plain note that
VAT/sales tax is on me, Stripe Tax exists if it matters. Prompt generated from the data on this page, not reviewed by hand yet. In English on purpose — it is the language coding agents work best in.
What you lose
- checkout/product UX
- course hosting
- email marketing
- memberships
- affiliates
- tax/payment details
- support
Why people still pay
They pay because commerce plus content delivery has lots of edge cases.
moat: Compliance and regulation Infrastructure scale Execution quality what a moat is
payments/content hosting/marketing
Free alternatives
Not in the mood to build it? These already exist, they are free or open source, and we checked them one by one.
Rejected (1) — and why
- Ghost (si apre in una nuova scheda) — Email and memberships fit; courses, quizzes and a general digital-product store do not.
Who has already built it
Starting from here is still vibecoding: the prompt is for when you want it exactly your way.
- Ghost (opens in a new tab) — Open-source publishing and memberships; combine with Stripe/file hosting for some Podia us (alive)
