Can I vibecode Webflow?
// buildable in a weekend, but real gaps stay open
A personal visual website builder is possible with existing editors, but Webflow's CMS, designer, hosting, animations, components, SEO, and client workflows are deep.
confidence: high
what it is: Visual website builder and CMS for marketing sites
Buildability index · an editorial game
- Price 25 $/month weight: plus 3
- Time multi-day weight: plus 1
- Category website builders no weight
- Moat execution quality · infrastructure scale · content and rights weight: minus 5
- Confidence high weight: plus 1
- What you lose 8 items weight: minus 3
- Site webflow.com (si apre in una nuova scheda) no weight
The moat outweighs the price: rebuilding this is a project, not an evening.
Gioco editoriale: il verdetto dice se un agente può, l’indice se conviene.
What you build
Use a visual editor or generate static pages from blocks, publish to hosting, and add a small CMS.
what you need
- visual builder/editor
- CMS database
- static export/build
- hosting
- asset manager
- auth
Strong kinda; plenty of prior art, but polish/client workflow is the moat.
The prompt
A weekend with a coding agent. The gaps that stay are right below, under “what you lose”.
Build me a block-based marketing site generator to replace Webflow, for my own sites. Requirements:
- An Eleventy static site where a page is a YAML file listing blocks: hero, feature
grid, testimonial, pricing table, FAQ, CTA, footer. Each block is a Nunjucks
partial; building a page means editing YAML, not HTML.
- CMS collections without a CMS: blog posts and case studies as Markdown with front
matter, listing and detail pages generated at build time.
- One design-tokens file (CSS custom properties for colors, type scale, spacing) so
a restyle touches exactly one file.
- Responsive by default: every block works at 360px and 1280px, images via
@11ty/eleventy-img.
- Forms POST to a small Express handler that emails me via SMTP creds in .env.
- Build to dist/, deploy with rsync to my VPS behind Caddy. Sitemap and per-page
meta/OG tags generated at build.
- No accounts, no telemetry, content lives in git.
- Out of scope: a visual drag-and-drop designer and client handoff. If I truly need
visual editing, self-host Webstudio instead of building an editor.
- README: block YAML reference with one full example page, DNS + Caddy snippet. Prompt generated from the data on this page, not reviewed by hand yet. In English on purpose — it is the language coding agents work best in.
What you lose
- designer fidelity
- CMS
- hosting
- animations
- client handoff
- marketplace/templates
- forms
- SEO tooling
Why people still pay
They pay because a designer can ship and maintain a production site without engineering every component.
moat: Execution quality Infrastructure scale Content and rights what a moat is
editor/CMS/hosting
Free alternatives
Not in the mood to build it? These already exist, they are free or open source, and we checked them one by one.
Rejected (1) — and why
- GrapesJS (si apre in una nuova scheda) — A framework for creating Webflow-like editors, not a visual CMS and hosting product.
Who has already built it
Starting from here is still vibecoding: the prompt is for when you want it exactly your way.
- Webstudio (opens in a new tab) — Open-source visual website builder and serious Webflow-like prior art. (alive)
